Making a Website: HTML or CMS?

I remember when I was 14 years old, I made my first ever website called ‘RulezBee’. Back then developing web wasn’t easy enough; I had to read tons of books. Sure we learned about HTML in Middle School but that was how far it went; they never really taught us how to get it LIVE on the World Wide Web. I wasn’t a bookworm and so it was quite tough for me until I saw this chart about ‘Uploading and Downloading’

That was the first time I came across the word ‘Uploading’ (seriously people, back then Facebook and Youtube weren’t invented yet!)

3 Essential Things to Run a Website

Basically, there are three things that you need to run a LIVE website: the files (HTML files), a server to place the files so you can view it LIVE on any computer, and a domain name. If you buy or somehow get a free domain and free server from two different places, you’ll need to link your domain to your server. Usually when you buy these two at the same place they will link your domain to your server automatically. However this won’t be the case; linking your domain to your server is very easy to do.

HTML pages; maybe not!

Now the Files, should you develop HTML pages from scratch? If you have a team of web developers, and you need to develop a website from scratch, this could be an option.

The web is evolving, and personally I don’t think developing HTML pages from scratch is worth it. I would prefer Content Management System (CMS) be installed and development progress could start from there. There is no reason to develop a web from scratch if the web won’t turn up at least as revolutionary as Facebook. If you are making a facebook killer or a totally unique website, of course you’ll have to develop everything from scratch, but making a personal web or a content-driven type of website you would be better off with CMS.
