Password Lost

Reset PC Login Password

Have you ever lost your log in password? You’ve never lost a password? Well, good for you! I’ve formatted hundreds of PCs before, and there have been number of times in which I inadvertently lost the log in password. This is a problem since windows operating system does not allow you to reset your log in password. Good for security but bad in certain situation like when you have no idea what your password was.

It’s stupid, but it happens a lot of times. I don’t believe this happens regularly, it happens usually:

  1. When you haven’t logged in to your PC for a very long time
  2. When you have no idea / have lost a newly created windows log in password

How do you retrieve lost windows password? There are two ways, the geeky way and the user-friendly way.

The geeky way is extremely geeky, you’ll need an original copy of windows CD (exactly the one used to install the O.S on your PC) Boot the CD by going to the BIOS select CD-Rom/DVD-Rom as the first boot device. Next, run windows repair wizard and go through the wizard, wait for the wizard to repair your PC. Once fixed, log in and backup your files. Now all you need to do is create a new user and transfer all the backup files to your new account since the current fixed account isn’t really fixed. The whole process allows you to log in you windows but it actually kind of destroys the user account as well. This is because ‘windows installation fix’ replaces system data to the ones on the CD.

Another way is the user friendly way, but it doesn’t come for free. All you need is a software called ‘Password Resetter’. (Link Removed; Recommended Product is no longer Relevant) The software allows you to reset your windows log in password at any windows based PC, anytime and anywhere. It comes with quick, easy to use graphical user interface, and guide on how you can get started with the software.

safe mode allows you to log in to your admin account. It would work but not if you don’t have the access to the account.
